What is a planetary transit (gochar)?

Gochar is the ongoing movement of the planets across the zodiac. Where each graha sits today, and the house it activates from your Moon or ascendant, is what Vedic astrology reads to time events. This page shows the live sidereal positions of the Sun, Moon, and the nine grahas.

How to read this transit chart

Each row lists a planet's current sign, nakshatra, and degree; R marks a retrograde planet and ° marks a combust one. The chart plots the same positions against the houses, counted from the ascendant rising right now.

Why your location matters

The planetary positions are identical everywhere on Earth at a given instant, but the ascendant (lagna), the house each planet occupies, and sunrise and sunset depend on where you are. Pick a city below for a chart localised to that place.

Frequently asked questions

What are today's planetary positions?
This page shows the live sidereal (Vedic) positions of the Sun, Moon, and the nine grahas right now, giving each planet's sign, nakshatra, and exact degree, updated to the current moment.
Why are these different from Western astrology?
These are sidereal positions using the Lahiri ayanamsa, the standard in Vedic astrology. They are offset from the tropical zodiac used in Western astrology by roughly 24 degrees.
Does the transit chart change by location?
The planetary positions are the same everywhere at a given moment, but the ascendant, the house each planet occupies, and sunrise and sunset depend on your location. Choose a city to localise the chart.

Planetary transits by city

Transit positions are the same worldwide, but your ascendant, houses, and sunrise depend on where you are. Pick a city for a localised transit chart.
